I am a potter who creates hand built and wheel-thrown pottery as well as mosaics, dichroic glass jewelry, and fine silver jewelry...  all kiln-created art.  I've had minimal training in pottery and consider myself to be primarily self taught.  In 2001, I took my first continuing ed class at the local community college in the Brazosport, Texas area.  From that first class I was totally consumed by all things pottery.  I was one of the founding members of a pottery co-op in Angleton, Texas called Coastal Clay Arts Co-Op which had a fully functional studio and gallery.  Creating Coastal Clay Arts was a labor of love from beginning to end. In October of 2006, I moved to Bastrop, Texas.  My studio was built in April, 2007 and I am happy as a clam to have my crowded little studio right in my own backyard.   I am a member of the Bastrop Fine Arts Guild as well as the Lost Pines Artisan’s Alliance in Smithville and am in the process of working with a group of artists to create a co-operative gallery here in Bastrop.

Clay is a fickle material subject to shrinkage, cracks, meltdowns, and breakage.  However, it is also amazing in the wide variety of forms it can take.  It is almost infinite in its possibilities.  Working with clay creates a Zen-like feeling of excitement and peacefulness at the same time.

I consider myself neither artist, artisan, nor crafter….  I am a potter.  I love to make pots.  I love to work with clay.  Every part of this process is fascinating, from working with wet clay to running the glaze tests to the excitement of opening the kiln after a firing.  Currently, my work is primarily functional.  There is something really rewarding about making a piece that will actually be used on a daily basis.  The finished piece carries the creativity of the potter, the power of the fire, and the spirit of the earth.
